Happy Wristwatch Wednesday! Boy, do I have a treat for you today. Over the weekend, as a guest of Rolex at Monterey Car Week, I had the rare opportunity to see and briefly try on the Rolex Le Mans Daytona. This was an encounter with a piece of history, capturing Rolex’s long-standing relationship with motorsport, especially the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans. The experience was made even more special knowing that the watch I tried on belongs to an owner and is the only one in all of Argentina, adding a unique layer of exclusivity to the moment.

Designer: Rolex

When I first laid eyes on the Le Mans edition, it was impossible not to be drawn to its unique details that set it apart from any other Daytona. The “100” marker on the bezel immediately caught my attention, a subtle yet powerful tribute to the 24 Hours of Le Mans centenary. This watch is a celebration of an iconic moment in motorsport history.

The dial, with its clean layout and striking red accents, evokes the spirit of the race. The subtle red details, while understated, carry a certain weight, reminding me of the legendary teams that have graced the track at Le Mans. The watch’s overall design is unmistakably Daytona, but it has nuances only a true enthusiast would fully appreciate.

Rolex

The sub-dials on the Rolex Le Mans Daytona are a defining feature, reflecting its historical roots and homage to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unlike traditional Daytona models, this edition features sub-dials with a layout reminiscent of the classic Daytona models from the 1960s, particularly the black and white “panda” dial design that has become iconic among collectors. However, what truly distinguishes these sub-dials is their functionality. Powered by the exclusive caliber 4132, these sub-dials include a chronograph function that tracks hours over an entire 24-hour period rather than the standard 12-hour format. This feature directly ties the watch to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, allowing it to track the entire race duration. This innovation adds practicality and historical significance to the timepiece.

The Rolex Le Mans Daytona, introduced in 2023 to mark the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is a tribute to endurance racing’s storied legacy. The “100” marker on the bezel, the red accents, and the solid 18-karat white gold case collectively honor a century of motorsport excellence.

Rolex

When I had the watch on my wrist, I first noticed its weight—a substantial, reassuring presence that speaks to Rolex’s impeccable craftsmanship. The 18-karat white gold case feels substantial, as it should for a piece honoring such a historic event. The size strikes a perfect balance, being noticeable without overpowering the wrist, making it wearable yet distinctive.

The sensation of the watch on my wrist was a revelation—solid yet comfortable, with a subtle and bold presence. The bracelet, seamlessly integrated with the case, fits snugly, reinforcing the sense that this watch is built to last, much like the cars that compete in the endurance race it celebrates.

Through the sapphire case back, the movement of the Rolex Le Mans Daytona reveals a unique feature that sets this timepiece apart from its predecessors. This original edition is powered by the caliber 4132, a movement specifically adapted for the Le Mans Daytona. While this movement is an adaptation of the caliber 4131 found in other modern Daytonas, it includes a 24-hour chronograph function rather than the standard 12-hour format. This modification is a deliberate nod to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, allowing the watch to track time over the full duration of the race.

Rolex

This innovation enhances the watch’s functionality for those involved in endurance racing and underscores Rolex’s commitment to creating timepieces that resonate deeply with the events they commemorate. The ability to measure time over a full day is a fitting tribute to the endurance and perseverance required to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, making the Le Mans Daytona a true symbol of the race’s enduring legacy.

Wearing the Le Mans Daytona, even for a brief moment, was a powerful reminder of why Rolex has remained at the pinnacle of horology. Nearly a decade ago, as an automotive journalist at an epic event with Audi during their last Le Mans race, I was privileged to drive the new S4 on the track right before qualifications, pushing it as hard as it would go. The brief time I had the Le Mans Daytona on my wrist brought that moment rushing back, and I felt more alive than ever.

A Special Cosmograph Daytona 100TH Anniversary of Le Mans Model

As I left Monterey Car Week, I couldn’t help but reflect on the legacy of the Le Mans Daytona. This watch carries a rich history, crafted to honor one of the most legendary races in the world. For those who appreciate the finer details in life, the Le Mans Daytona reflects the enduring spirit of Rolex and the world of motorsport.

As a guest of Rolex at the 2024 Concours d’Elegance during Monterey Car Week, I experienced a seamless blend of history and innovation against the picturesque setting of Pebble Beach. The event showcased classic and contemporary automotive art, with Rolex’s influence evident throughout, reflecting their commitment to precision, tradition, and forward-thinking design. From meticulously restored vintage cars to unveiling futuristic designs, the festivities highlighted Rolex’s dedication to craftsmanship and innovation. My time there deepened my appreciation for the artistry in automotive design and emphasized Rolex’s role in linking the past, present, and future of motoring. In the following discussion, I’ll explore how Rolex’s legacy continues to shape the world of motorsport and automotive culture, as I experienced firsthand at this year’s memorable festivities.

Designer: Rolex

Rolex: A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Innovation

Rolex embodies luxury, precision, and lasting craftsmanship. Founded by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London in 1905, it has evolved into a global icon. Originally known as Wilsdorf & Davis, the company specialized in distributing timepieces before focusing on manufacturing.

Rolex: The first waterproof and dustproof wristwatch by Rolex in 1926.

In 1908, Rolex was registered, and Wilsdorf set out to create elegant and reliable wristwatches. This pursuit led to developing the first waterproof wristwatch, the Rolex Oyster, in 1926. The Oyster case was a groundbreaking innovation, protecting the watch’s movement from dust, moisture, and pressure, ensuring its accuracy even in challenging conditions.

Innovation continued with the introduction of the Perpetual rotor in 1931, the world’s first self-winding mechanism powered by the natural motion of the wrist. This advancement set Rolex apart in the luxury watch market, marking another significant milestone in horology.

Rolex’s drive for precision is evident in its rigorous testing processes. Every Rolex watch undergoes stringent tests for accuracy, water resistance, and endurance, earning the brand its reputation for reliability. Certified as Superlative Chronometers by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), these timepieces highlight Rolex’s dedication to exceptional performance.

Over the decades, Rolex has introduced pioneering innovations that have solidified its reputation in watchmaking. In 1945, Rolex unveiled the Datejust, the first wristwatch to display the date on the dial, marking a significant leap forward in both functionality and design. The Submariner followed in 1953 as the first dive watch to be waterproof to a depth of 100 meters, made possible by the robust Oyster case—a marvel of engineering that ensures the watch’s durability and water resistance under extreme conditions.

Rolex also revolutionized the watch bracelet with the introduction of the Oyster bracelet, known for its strength and comfort, and the Jubilee bracelet, which combines style and flexibility, offering unmatched wearability. In recent years, Rolex introduced the Oysterflex bracelet, a sophisticated combination of flexible titanium and nickel alloy metal blade covered with high-performance elastomer, providing a new level of comfort without sacrificing durability.

Today, Rolex leads the world of luxury and precision, with each watch representing a blend of cutting-edge technology and timeless design. The brand’s legacy thrives on relentless innovation, uncompromising quality, and an enduring pursuit of perfection.

Rolex’s Timeless Connection with Motorsport

In the 1930s, Sir Malcolm Campbell, the renowned British racing driver known as the “King of Speed,” forged a powerful connection between high-speed racing and precision timekeeping. On Sept. 3, 1935, at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, Campbell made history by becoming the first person to break the 300 mph barrier, reaching 301.13 mph. During this groundbreaking feat, he relied on the Rolex Oyster. This watch demonstrated remarkable resilience and accuracy under extreme conditions, marking the beginning of a lasting bond between motorsport and Rolex.

At the time of Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record-breaking feats, the Rolex Oyster was still establishing its reputation. Campbell’s choice of the Rolex Oyster during his high-speed attempts significantly contributed to proving its reliability. His successes, supported by the watch’s consistent performance during these demanding moments, played a crucial role in forging Rolex’s longstanding association with motorsport. This partnership began a deep connection between Rolex and the world of speed, precision, and endurance.

In 1959, Rolex became the official timekeeper for the newly established Daytona International Speedway, cementing its role in motorsport. This partnership eventually led to the creation of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph in 1963, later famously known as the ‘Daytona.’ The watch was designed specifically for racing drivers, featuring a tachymetric scale on the bezel that allowed drivers to measure average speed over a specific distance—a crucial function in motorsports.

The Daytona’s design and functionality made it a legend in the racing world, and its connection to the speedway secured Rolex’s place in motorsport history. The watch became an icon cherished by racing enthusiasts and collectors. Over the years, Rolex’s involvement in motorsport deepened, particularly in endurance racing.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is a grueling 24-hour endurance race that pushes drivers and machines to their limits. In 1992, Rolex became the title sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to precision and performance. This race demands unwavering focus and high-speed consistency, with drivers rotating through shifts to keep their cars moving. The parallels between this endurance and the reliability expected from Rolex watches are clear—both are engineered to perform under pressure, whether on the track or in daily life, reflecting the brand’s dedication to durability and precision.

Endurance races like the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans challenge drivers and vehicles alike, requiring intense stamina and flawless reliability. These events demand high performance from every component, with drivers battling fatigue and maintaining focus under extreme conditions. Similarly, Rolex mechanical watches are designed to endure, keeping precise time through years of use and the rigors of daily wear. This shared commitment to enduring performance solidifies Rolex’s role in motorsport, where reliability is paramount.

Welcome to the first Furniture Friday, where we’ll explore the furniture that shapes our lives each week. Today, we begin with a design icon, the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Herman Miller. This legendary piece has captivated enthusiasts for decades with its blend of elegance, innovation, and comfort. From its rich history to its meticulous design, the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are timeless symbols of modern living.

Designer: Herman Miller

A Timeless Classic: The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman journey began in the 1940s when Charles and Ray Eames were exploring new materials and techniques in furniture design. Their pioneering use of molded plywood and ergonomic principles set the stage for this iconic piece. Introduced to the public on the Arlene Francis “Home” show on NBC in 1956, the chair quickly became a design sensation.

Charles and Ray aimed to create a chair that offered a warm, welcoming appearance and exceptional comfort. They crafted a luxurious and functional design by merging the aesthetics of a traditional club chair with modern materials. This innovative use of molded plywood showcased their ability to push the boundaries of furniture design.

Produced by Herman Miller in 1956, the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman have remained true to their original design while incorporating new materials and manufacturing techniques. This consistency has ensured their status as timeless pieces of furniture. The chair’s popularity extends beyond homes and offices, having appeared in numerous TV shows and films, such as “Frasier,” “Iron Man,” and “Tron: Legacy,” cementing its place in popular culture.

Design and Craftsmanship

The Eames Lounge Chair features a shell constructed from layers of molded plywood, providing a solid yet lightweight framework that supports the body comfortably. The plywood is finished with a rich veneer, adding natural elegance to its modern silhouette.

The chair includes several distinct components:

  • The seat and back cushions are identical in construction and are interchangeable. They are made from high-density foam wrapped with a blend of down and feather, ensuring comfort and durability. The cushions are upholstered in premium leather or high-quality fabric and secured to the plywood shells with snaps to maintain their position.
  • The back shells, crafted from molded plywood, are designed to secure the back cushions and provide structural support. They are connected to the base with cast aluminum back connectors and reinforced with rubber spacers to ensure flexibility and resilience.
  • The chair’s arms are constructed from 12-gauge steel plates, cushioned with foam rubber, and covered with fabric or leather to match the seat and back cushions. These arms provide sturdy support while enhancing the chair’s overall comfort.
  • Shock mounts made from resilient natural rubber attach the backrest to the seat, allowing for a slight flex that increases comfort without compromising support. This design element is crucial for the chair’s ergonomic functionality.
  • The chair’s base features a five-point star design made from die-cast aluminum, which includes a built-in swivel mechanism. This base is designed for stability and ease of movement, with stainless steel glides that adjust to ensure the chair remains level on various surfaces.

The ottoman, designed to complement the lounge chair, shares the same construction principles. Its shell is made from molded plywood and features high-density foam cushions upholstered in matching leather or fabric. The ottoman’s base mirrors the design of the chair’s base, ensuring a cohesive and stylish appearance.

Unique Appeal and Comfort

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are distinguished by their exceptional comfort and unique charm. Their curved, ergonomic design conforms to the body’s natural contours, providing excellent support, particularly in the lumbar region. This makes the chair ideal for long periods of sitting.

The foam and leather upholstery combination enhances the overall sitting experience, creating a luxurious feel. Generous proportions and thoughtful design details, such as the angled seat and backrest, contribute to the chair’s inviting and relaxing nature.

Meticulous attention to detail in the production process ensures each piece is of the highest quality, with every seam and joint carefully constructed. This craftsmanship adds to the chair’s aesthetic appeal and durability, embodying the Eameses’ philosophy of seamlessly combining design and function.

Vision Then and Now

The 1963 ad for the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, featured in Progressive Architecture, captures the essence of the chair’s design philosophy. The ad emphasizes “peace of mind and ease of body” in a chair “you live in rather than sit in.” This messaging highlights the Eameses’ focus on creating a piece of furniture that goes beyond mere functionality to enhance the user’s quality of life. The visual design of the ad, with its clean lines and modern aesthetic, underscores the timeless charm of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman.

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman were featured in a 1963 ad in Progressive Architecture magazine.

Today, the vision remains unchanged, but the context has evolved. Modern interiors continue to embrace the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman for their unmatched comfort and iconic design. The contemporary photograph of the chair in a modern living space shows how seamlessly it integrates into today’s homes, maintaining its status as a symbol of sophistication and comfort. The chair’s ability to adapt to changing styles while retaining its core design principles is a testament to the enduring genius of Charles and Ray Eames.

Introducing Sustainable Materials

This is the perfect segue to Herman Miller’s exciting new development. Herman Miller introduces bamboo-based upholstery to the iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainability across its portfolio.

Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman with bamboo-based leather alternative

Herman Miller expands its offering for the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman to include a bamboo-based leather alternative. This plant-based material is derived from bamboo, known for being one of the world’s most sustainable resources due to its rapid growth, higher CO2 absorption rate, and minimal water requirements.

A Sustainable Innovation

The new bamboo-based leather alternative is softer, more durable, scratch-resistant, and more colorfast than traditional materials. It has been used in designer handbags, luxury automotive interiors, and now, as an upholstery option for the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman. Upholstering the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman in material derived from bamboo helps reduce the material’s carbon footprint by up to 35 percent, contributing to a lighter environmental impact.

Maintaining Quality and Aesthetics

The new upholstery is available in ivory, russet, and black, each of which can be paired with any existing shell types—walnut, Santos Palisander, ash, or oak—in standard and tall sizes. This ensures that the iconic design and high-quality standards of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are upheld while integrating modern sustainability practices.

Legacy and Modern Sustainability

Noah Schwarz, vice president of product design for Herman Miller, emphasizes the significance of this innovation: “Charles and Ray Eames pioneered the use of molded plywood in furniture, one of the central material innovations of their time. Today, Herman Miller is among the first furniture brands to offer a plant-based leather alternative—made almost entirely from bamboo. The two materials come together in the latest offering of the iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, upholding the aesthetic and quality standards that have defined the chair for nearly 70 years.”

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are celebrated for their timeless charm and enduring quality, making them a benchmark for furniture design and comfort. This new development continues the legacy of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, combining timeless design with modern sustainability, ensuring that these iconic pieces remain relevant and cherished for generations to come.

Last year Swedish boat maker Candela announced its partnership with Polestar to create a special edition hydrofoil boat that would be hard to challenge. The vision has met fruition in the form of Candela C-8 Powered by Polestar. This electric boat is a major upgrade over the C-7 and challenges other similar makers with its unique proposition.

The boat employs advanced hydrofoil technology to reduce the drag by exposing a minimum of the hull area to the water. This results in 8 percent less energy consumption as compared to conventional electric boats hitting the horizon. This ultimately results in extending the range – 57 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 22 knots. Driving it around at a top speed of 30 knots will decrease the range, still, it will be better than other options. As per Candela, the numbers are almost two times better than electric boats and even compare well with the combustion engine counterparts.

Designer: Candela and Polestar

What Polestar brings to the equation are the 69 kWh batteries along with the DC fast charging for quick juicing up. The 8-seater boat can also be charged with Polestar’s 11 kW three-phase AC charging port. According to Candela’s founder and CEO Gustav Hasselskog, the C8 makes it possible to travel to destinations previously only “reachable by combustion engine boats. The Candela C-8 powered by Polestar marks a significant breakthrough for electrification at sea.”

The electric boat is well within the 50 nautical miles excursion range stated by research done with boaters. So, you could go from Sweden to Finland in just one day, or traverse the whole French Riviera in mere hours. The option is cost-effective as well due to its premium range as stated by the maker. Teaming up with Polestar for the advanced batteries is the best decision for both. The shared goal will make it possible to transition to a sustainable future.

As for the looks, the electric boat scores very high with multiple shades of grey across the face. It might be unconventional but stylish nonetheless. The boat’s cabin is beautifully tailored and the seat’s upholstered for a premium feel for the riders – something akin to high-end automobiles. Coming at $450,000 the electric boat can be bought in carbon fiber hardtop or completely open version.

Bugatti has a long history of shattering expectations in the world of hyper sport cars. From the Veyron’s record-breaking horsepower to the Chiron’s mind-bending acceleration, each new model pushes the boundaries of what’s possible. The 2026 Bugatti Tourbillon doesn’t just continue this legacy; it rewrites it entirely. However, it does so in the most Bugatti way possible. The Tourbillon, which unexpectedly dropped today, might just be the iPad of cars – outwardly, it looks relatively unchanged, with perhaps a few tweaks to a design language that is unabashedly Bugatti… but just like the iPad Pro shattered expectations with the M4 chip, the Bugatti Tourbillon does with its new hybrid engine, and arguably one of the most bonkers-looking steering wheels I’ve ever seen in a non-F1 car.

Designer: Bugatti

The Tourbillon marks a significant departure from its predecessors. Unlike the Veyron and Chiron, whose souls were powered by the mighty W16 engine, the Tourbillon ushers in a new era of electrification for Bugatti. At the heart of this new beast lies a colossal 8.3-liter, naturally-aspirated V16 engine, co-developed with Cosworth, churning out a monstrous 986 horsepower. This monstrous internal combustion engine is then supplemented by a trio of electric motors strategically placed throughout the car to achieve all-wheel drive and superior torque vectoring. The combined output of this innovative powertrain is a mind-numbing 1,775 horsepower, propelling the Tourbillon to the pinnacle of automotive performance.

Front-leaning butterfly doors give the Tourbillon a gorgeous silhouette

However, the brilliance of the Tourbillon goes far beyond its sheer power. Bugatti has meticulously crafted a design that transcends mere aesthetics, seamlessly integrating cutting-edge aerodynamics into the car’s very form. The iconic horseshoe grille, a signature element of modern Bugattis, remains a focal point. But every line and curve on the car’s sculpted body is meticulously designed to manage airflow and generate downforce at unimaginable speeds. This design philosophy isn’t just about creating a visually striking car; it’s about ensuring exceptional stability and control for the driver when pushing the Tourbillon to its limits.

Bugatti engineers have employed over two decades of expertise gleaned from the Veyron and Chiron projects to equip the Tourbillon with a suite of cutting-edge aerodynamic technologies. One such innovation is the ingenious rear wing. Unlike traditional spoilers that rise abruptly at high speeds, the Tourbillon’s wing remains subtly submerged even during top-speed runs. This is achieved through a meticulously designed airflow management system that generates a perfect equilibrium of forces, eliminating the need for a visually intrusive spoiler. The wing automatically adjusts to provide higher downforce at lower speeds and acts as an airbrake for improved stability during deceleration.

Another key element in the Tourbillon’s aerodynamic prowess is the all-new diffuser concept. This ingenious system starts its climb just behind the passenger cabin, rising at an optimal angle to keep the car perfectly balanced. This diffuser is cleverly integrated with a completely new crash structure, hidden from sight within the diffuser itself. This design not only ensures exceptional aerodynamic efficiency but also maintains the clean lines of the car’s open rear end.

The interior of the Tourbillon is a testament to Bugatti’s commitment to timeless design and unparalleled craftsmanship. In a bold move away from the ubiquitous digital displays dominating modern car interiors, the Tourbillon features a completely analogue instrument cluster. Crafted by Swiss watchmakers, these instruments exude the same precision and elegance found in the world’s finest timepieces. This choice is a subtle nod to the car’s name, “Tourbillon,” a reference to a revolutionary watchmaking innovation that prioritizes timeless design and functionality over fleeting trends.

The Bugatti Tourbillon boasts a revolutionary steering wheel unlike any other. It defies the norm by having a fixed central hub that houses the analog gauges, including a tachometer and speedometer. These remain constantly visible no matter how much the driver turns the wheel. This is achieved through ingenious engineering with a planetary gearbox that allows the rim to rotate independently of the center console. Crafted from lightweight materials like titanium and aluminum, the steering wheel is a marvel of design and engineering that also pays a grand tribute to the origins of the car’s name – the tourbillon. The car’s dashboard is an homage to haute timekeeping, with a speedometer that looks like it was pulled from a premium chronograph, as do the other ‘subdials’ on the side. With its intricate mechanics and luxurious feel, it perfectly complements the Bugatti’s reputation for marrying cutting-edge technology with timeless elegance.

The meticulously designed driver’s environment extends beyond the instrument cluster. The cabin is awash in the finest materials, including supple leather and exposed carbon fiber accents. Every detail, from the meticulously stitched seats to the flawlessly machined metal controls, is a testament to Bugatti’s dedication to creating a luxurious and functional space that elevates the driving experience to an art form.

Bugatti has begun testing the highly anticipated Tourbillon hypercar. Prototypes are currently undergoing rigorous evaluation on the road, paving the way for customer deliveries in 2026. Production will be strictly limited to just 250 units, each meticulously hand-assembled at the Bugatti Atelier in Molsheim, France. The Tourbillon follows the final W16-powered Bugatti models, the Bolide and W16 Mistral, and boasts a starting price of €3.8 million net (approx $4 million USD).

That price tag shouldn’t surprise you, given that Caviar’s built its reputation on catering to the creme-de-la-creme of tech collectors. While most people know Caviar for its ornate smartphone cases, it turns out the company makes watches too – with the same luxury-forward philosophy. Their latest ‘Space Tornado’ collection features three watches that highlight the cosmos, but it’s the flagship watch in the series that has our eye. Priced at upwards of 6 grand (or roughly two Vision Pros), the Stargazer X-Edition watch comes with a 24k gold-plated body, a tourbillon at the 6 o’clock mark, and a relic of actual space travel at the 12 o’clock mark. Each watch comes with a fragment of the SpaceX Starship spacecraft, carefully sourced from a collector and placed at the top of the watch as its crown jewel.

Designer: Caviar

The Stargazer’s dial takes inspiration from Jupiter’s moon Europa. The dial comes with an icy, striated finish, referencing the moon’s icy surface with a blue ocean underneath – possibly teeming with life. It’s rather poetic too, considering that the watch’s movement lies beneath this surface too. The watch sports a main dial that tells you the time of the day, accompanied by two subdials, one serving as a power indicator and the other, as a 24-hour clock. The subdials are flanked by a tourbillon at the 6 o’clock position that fervently beats like the watch’s heart… but if your eyes can tear away from its hypnotic movement, it should find itself at the 12 o’clock position.

Sitting right at the top of the watch face is a small, practically unrecognizable fragment. Taken from the Starship – the largest rocket ever flown – these fragments represent space travel, along with humankind’s indomitable spirit for touching the stars. The fragment finds itself encased within the watch’s face right at the top, and is one of three such fragments that will be found in the Stargazer’s limited edition series.

The rest of the watch boasts Caviar-style luxury too. The body is made from 316L stainless steel, plated with 24K gold. The straps are high-quality calfskin leather, and the clasp on the back is gold-plated as well. The watch also sports an exhibition back, letting you view the movement inside. Caviar doesn’t specify the watch movement, but given the presence of a power reserve, it’s probably automatic – using your wrist’s movements to harness energy that powers the watch.

The Stargazer X-Edition is limited to a mere 3 pieces, making the watch rarer than most luxury timepieces we usually see. At $6,630, it still might be one of the more affordable tourbillon timepieces on the market, and the inclusion of a Starship fragment definitely sets it apart – but then again, watches in this range can often be impregnated with moon dust, mars rocks, or even meteorites. The Stargazer X-Edition is definitely a conversation-starter if you’re a space enthusiast or find yourself among similar-minded folk. The watch, at least at the time of writing this, is still available – and if you’re looking for a discount, paying with cryptocurrency gets you a neat 15% knocked off the original price.

Lottery-inspired Alarm Clock gives you rewards for taking the effort to seize the day

Most of us generally use smartphones to set alarms without realizing that these little radiation mongers by the bedside are messing up our sleep patterns. It is better to leave the phones at a comfortable distance from the bed. But how do you wake up the lazy sleeper then? Well, invest in an alarm clock that can become your best pal to start off the day with a purpose.

If you have an agenda, a schedule, or a defined routine after the alarm goes off, you’re set and probably doing well for yourself. For the others – who are aimless waking up every morning, with no set routine to follow – the snooze button on the phone or clock is the favorite choice. The Fortune Clock arrives without the snooze option, rather a purpose-defined wakeup activity that goes a long way beyond just waking you up with something to do.

Designer: Ho Hyun LIM

When out in the market for an alarm clock, you look for the nightlight option, volume levels, and of course the snooze button. For the Fortune Clock, you might have to have a different mindset: An outlook to look at your fortune based on how you get up in the morning.

Sounds interesting? It well is! The clock with a digital display on the front quarter – featuring time and day – has an interesting wheel of fortune just below. The idea is to fill the clock from the top with balls. When you wake up in the morning to turn off the alarm (by pressing the button on top) a ball with a number is released (this happens every day) and appears in the groves cut out on the front.

While the idea of the clock is to get the user into the habit of making an effort to get up to stop the alarm and put the ball rolling (not literally); the designer believes, the numbered balls are fortune tellers as well. User can, Ho believes, combine the numbers on the balls obtained from this effort of getting up, to purchase lottery tickets, to seize their luck. How much numerology magic the clock does is for you to understand, but these hard-earned numbers will definitely make a difference to your sleep cycle and waking-up routine.

Legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, famed for its historic decades-long collaboration with Ferrari, has unveiled its debut piece of collectible furniture – the Oksýs chaise longue. This unique creation seamlessly blends the company’s automotive design heritage with the functionality of a high-end chaise lounge. The Oksýs is a limited-edition statement piece designed to complement Pininfarina’s recent foray into branded residential projects. The chaise longue embodies the studio’s core design principles, which center on the harmonious marriage of aesthetics and technical innovation.

Designer: Pininfarina

The Oksýs is a striking visual interplay of contrasting elements. The upper section features smooth, ergonomic lines reminiscent of a Pininfarina sports car. This section is crafted for comfort and boasts a reflective finish that invites touch. In stark contrast, the lower portion resembles a rough, crystal-like rock, creating a sense of groundedness.

“Seen from above, Oksýs is smooth and reflects light with no aggressive angles,” explains Marco Becucci, the in-house architect who designed the chaise longue. “This upper part invites the user to touch it, while the lower section offers a textural counterpoint, left coarse and milled to resemble an untouched rock.”

The design and development process for the Oksýs mirrored Pininfarina’s approach to creating high-performance automobiles. The project began with sketches, followed by ergonomic testing, computer-aided modeling, and finally, the creation of physical models using CNC milling to achieve the complex form.

The prototype showcased at Milan Design Week was crafted from polyurethane and finished with a gleaming epoxy resin, creating a captivating metallic effect. Pininfarina envisions future iterations cast entirely in steel or aluminum, further solidifying the connection to its automotive roots. Only three Oksýs chaise longues will be produced, each sold exclusively through the Rossana Orlandi gallery.

Wayne Enterprises and T3MP3ST have one more reason for Batman fans to go on a spending spree if they like exploring the waters. This is the Maverick GT Stormy Knight electric exploration vehicle developed by the two companies for the filthy rich. That’s because the eco-friendly boat is priced at $250,000. According to makers, “it is a first-of-its-kind, ultra-luxury commerce environment that immerses you in the world of DC’s Bruce Wayne, the billionaire civilian persona of The Batman.”

The limited-edition watercraft is a balanced iteration of luxury and high-end technology for the best experience venturing out in the waters. Only 27 units of this vessel will be created by T3MP3ST who have been redefining nautical adventures with innovative Electric Exploration Vehicles designed for the government agencies and the elite.

Designer: T3MP3ST and Wayne Enterprises

The 4-meter power boat is designed out of carbon fiber and stainless steel to optimize performance without harming the environment. The use of these materials keeps the total weight down to 1,300 pounds. The power comes from a 100 kWh modular battery that’s mated to a 350 hp electric motor. This enables it to reach speeds of more than 85 mph and have a range of 75 miles on a single full charge. That roughly equates to around six hours of runtime. The watercraft is loaded with an autonomous navigation system that has Garmin’s advanced GPS and voice command integration compatible with iOS and Apple Watch.

This EEV comes with high-grade customization to suit the needs of demanding buyers. It is crafted for a four-seat configuration just like a jet-ski, keeping in mind Batman and Robin would hop onto the ride whenever criminals decide to fox the authorities by taking the water route. Plus there’s space for two more to add to the fighting power. If buyers want to have more seating space, the company is also offering a larger version with a 30-foot RIB hull that can ferry 8 passengers. Top speeds on this one are considerably lower at 40 knots but it can cruise for eight hours on a single charge.

Those interested in buying the Maverick GT Stormy Knight luxury boat can head over to the BruceWayneX website for pre-order, or mark their calendars to visit the Wayne Enterprises Experience in New York City from June 3 to 10.

As a die-hard enthusiast of both timepieces and Formula 1, the comeback of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series 1 not only grabs my attention—it’s also gearing up to increase my spending habits this month! This iconic watch, first introduced in 1986, was a pivotal point for TAG Heuer and played a key role in rejuvenating the Swiss brand during the quartz crisis. Its vibrant, robust design has survived and flourished, turning into a valued collector’s piece.

Designer: TAG Heuer + Kith

Teaming up with Kith, the trend-setting powerhouse that’s all about shaking up the fashion scene, TAG Heuer has given this classic sports watch a slick modern makeover. Limited to just under 5,000 pieces, the collection illustrates the nostalgia that often fuels contemporary watch collecting, coupled with the exclusivity and appeal that modern collectors want.

Just like the Swatch MoonSwatch sparked a frenzy in the watch world by adding a playful and accessible spin to Omega’s classic design, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith collection is set to generate similar excitement. As such, it’s sure to mix the thrill of “get it before it’s gone” with some cool, fresh updates. I imagine it will attract long-time original series fans and a new generation captivated by unique collaborations and storytelling through design.

Swatch x Peanuts Snoopy MoonSwatch

The new series introduces significant updates to meet modern expectations. Sapphire crystal now replaces the original plastic dial coverings, improving both durability and clarity. High-grade rubber straps have been used in place of the original plastic ones, providing enhanced comfort and wearability. Personally, I prefer high-quality rubber straps because they are more casual and comfortable for daily wear. The collection includes five models with stainless steel cases, two of which have black PVD coatings to match their bezels. Additionally, five models maintain the original Arnite cases, now offered in new colorways created in partnership with Kith.

Ronnie Fieg, the founder of Kith and a significant figure in the streetwear and sneaker industry, brings his personal passion for vintage TAG Heuer Formula 1s to this collaboration. This enthusiasm is echoed in the collection’s unique design elements. The all-plastic versions, as well as two steel versions with bright blue and green bezels, are available exclusively at Kith’s boutiques in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Toronto, Hawaii, Tokyo, and Paris, as well as on its website.

These watches represent a return to the brand’s adventurous and innovative roots for fans of TAG Heuer’s racing heritage. This watch lets you own a piece of motorsport history, refreshed for today. It’s a direct link to racing legends, updated with modern style—perfect for everyday wear or showing off at special events. The balance between preserving nostalgic features like the 35mm sizing and vibrant color palettes and introducing upgrades showcases TAG Heuer’s dedication to respecting its past while pushing forward.

As TAG Heuer and Kith prepare to launch, there’s a buzz among Formula 1 fans and watch enthusiasts. This isn’t just another watch hitting the market. It’s a big deal, a cultural happening. It’s a one-of-a-kind piece that might sell out as quickly as a race car zips around the track. It could even match the recent hit collaborations by Swatch.
